Wow, this guy might be correct, but he’s clearly not done his homework. This issue has been noted and accounted for in the navigational deflector that all starships carry for just this reason (I have read at least two Star Trek novels that refer to this very problem and how the navigational deflectors solved it). He’s not breaking new ground, he’s just grinding up old hash. If he wants to cite something that’s impractical, the FIRST thing he should address is the artificial gravity all starships possess and the inertial dampeners that keep the people from going to pulp when engaging enormous speeds which would occur prior to any random encounters with space debris.
